During the four-year siege of the Bosnian capital city of Sarajevo, hundreds of thousands of bombs rained upon the city from the surrounding hills. Every shell exploding on a road or paved area left an imprint resembling that of a flower. Today, some of these craters remain, their ‘petals’ painted red and referred to as ‘Sarajevo roses’ by its citizens, like scars on the heart, a reminder of the innocent blood that was spilled on these streets.
Art is Forever was a project that attempted to foster a more meaningful connection between the Portland Art Museum and its visitors. Several Portland artists were selected and given the opportunity to create illustrations inspired by their visits to the Portland Art Museum. These illustrations were made available as free tattoos on a first come, first served basis throughout the entire day.
I am just so excited by this idea.

Tomorrow night the UMBC IMDA MFA (that’s a lot of caps) program is having a show at the in/flux building on Baltimore Street. The opening starts at 7 and goes until 9. If you’re at all interested in the program, this would be a great way to see what other grads are doing, and it will also just be a really interesting and diverse show!
